How To Find Your Dropshipping Competitors (And The Ads They Are Running)
A practical method for finding the real stores selling your product and seeing which of their Facebook ads have been running long enough to be profitable.
If someone else is selling your product profitably, they have already paid to learn what works. Their live ads are the cheapest market research available, and it is public.
Why "how long has it been running" is the key signal
Nobody keeps a losing ad live. Ad spend is a vote. An ad that has been running for two months is almost certainly profitable — otherwise it would have been switched off in week one.
This single fact is more useful than any engagement metric. Likes can be bought and views can be cheap, but sustained spend cannot be faked.
The method
- Describe the product generically, not by brand. Searching a brand name only finds that brand. Search what the thing is — "knitted newborn cardigan", not "NivowBag".
- Find stores actually selling it. Look for real storefronts, not marketplaces, review blogs, or pattern and template sites — they sell a different thing to a different buyer.
- Find each store's Facebook page. Usually linked in the site footer.
- Look them up in the Facebook Ad Library and read the start dates. Anything live over 30 days is your shortlist.
- Study the long-runners only. The opening frame, the offer, the price, the first three seconds.
The mistakes that waste the most time
- Searching by brand. You get one competitor: the one you already knew about.
- Accepting near-matches. A home decor store and a loungewear store are not competitors just because both words appeared. Different buyer, useless data.
- Copying a brand-new ad. An ad running for four days has proven nothing. It may already be losing money.
Doing it faster
Done by hand this is an evening of work per product — and repeating it for every product you test is why most people stop doing it. AdDoctor's competitor search runs the whole sequence automatically: it identifies the product from your store URL, finds real competing stores, verifies they are actually in your category, and pulls their live Facebook ads with the dates attached.
Stop guessing which second kills your ad.
AdDoctor connects to your Meta ad account and shows you exactly where viewers scroll away — and which competitor stores are running ads in your niche right now.
